With temps right around 80 degrees on a bright, sunny morning in St. George, it was never going to be a fast day, but both races ended up being battles all the way to the line. In the men’s race, five athletes were still tightly bunched at the bell and it turned into a 4-wide sprint down the final straight. Dillon Maggard (HOKA ONE ONE) took the victory over Rory Linkletter (HOKA NAZ Elite), 13:50.38 to 13:50.72.
A little over halfway in, the women’s race was down to Dom Scott (adidas), Maggie Montoya (Roots Running) and the HOKA NAZ Elite trio of Steph Bruce, Kellyn Taylor and Lauren Paquette. Bruce put the hammer down with a mile to and only Taylor could follow. Taylor then took over with two laps to go and the duo fought all the way to the finish, running a 65-second closing lap (4:48 last 1600), with Taylor edging Bruce, 15:29.44 to 15:29.95.
