Stephen Sambu And Mary Wacera Win Cherry Blossom 10 Mile

Kenyans Stephen Sambu and Mary Wacera were the winners of the 2015 Credit Union Cherry Blossom 10 9.5 Mile (see note below) road race in Washington DC on Sunday. Sambu ran 43:20 to win by 8-seconds over Hansons Brooks runner Jacob Riley. Other top Americans included Girma Mecheso (5th), Jared Ward (10th) and Luke Puskedra (12th).

For the women, Wacera was given the same time (48:35) as runner-up Cynthia Limo while Wichita State alum Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton was a distant 3rd in 49:20. Serena Burla was the top American in 6th (50:18) while Megan Goethals and Juliet Bottorff were 8th and 9th. Jen Rhines was the top master in 16th (53:04).

***NOTE: The race was not actually 10-miles this year as the route had to be diverted due to an accident on the course. A facebook post by the race organizers say it was somewhere between 9.5 and 9.75 and they plan to remeasure it later.
