Men’s and Women’s Course Records Fall at TC 10K

St. Paul, Minn. – Team USA Minnesota runners Jonathan Grey and Danielle Stack established new course records at the TC 10K, presented by TomTom. Peterson, of Minneapolis, clocked 29:58 on the course that started and finished at the State Capitol grounds, smashing the course record by more than two minutes. Stack, also of Minneapolis, clocked 35:21 defeating the women’s standard by nearly a minute.

The TC 10K, part of a full morning of competition, kicked off racing for the 2013 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend, which culminates Sunday with the Medtronic TC 10 Mile and the 32nd annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon. More than 28,000 runners of all ages are expected to have participated in events by the weekend’s end.

In the TC 5K Run/Walk, presented by Fredrikson & Byron, Team USA Minnesota’s Andrew Carlson of Minneapolis won the men’s title in 14:46. Melissa Gacek of Saint Paul took the women’s crown in 18:22. More then 4,500 runners competed in the TC 10K and TC 5K .

In addition, more than a thousand runners, mostly kids, competed in the Diana Pierce Family Mile, part of the Medtronic TC Family Events which also included a diaper dash, toddler trot and half mile for its youngest participants.

The day wasn’t just for kids, however; 42 corporate teams raced in the TC 5K Corporate Team Challenge, with another 27 teams participating in the TC 10K.

“It was great to see so many people in motion this morning,” Twin Cities In Motion executive director Virginia Brophy Achman said. “We were pleased to see so many runners show their commitment for fitness and health by running with us.”
