Below you will find bios for many of the top athletes for Sunday’s CVS Caremark Downtown 5K as provided to us by race organizers.

Only five American athletes have ever run under 13.00 mins for 5000m and we are very privileged to have two of them in the field today, Chris Solinsky and Matt Tegenkamp.


Chris Solinsky had a banner year in 2010. He became the first non African to break 27 mins for 10,000m running 26.59.60 at the Payton Jordan meet at Stanford University in May. This broke the American record by fourteen seconds. Later that summer he went on to run 5000m in a personal record of 12.55.53 set in the DN Galan event in Stockholm Sweden. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin he was five time NCAA Champion. He followed his coach  Jerry Schumacher to Portland OR and now runs for the Oregon Track Club Elite.


Matt Tegenkamp is a two time Olympian. he competed in the 5000m in Beijing in 2088 and the 10,000m in London in 2012. He finished 4th in the World Championship 5000m in 2077 in Osaka Japan. In 2009 he joined a very select elite group of American athletes when he ran 12.58.56 to break the 13 minute barrier. He won the CVS Caremark Downtown 5K in 2009 and also place second in 2008. He also lives and train in Portland OR.


Alistair Cragg is a three time Olympian for Ireland having competed in Athens, Beijing and London. He  now lives and trains here in Providence Rhode Island. He was one of the most successful distance runners in collegiate history being a seven time NCAA Champion while running for the University of Arkansas. He is Irish record holder at 5000m 13.03.53 and 10,000m 27.39.55.


Sam Chelanga was the second place finisher in the CVS Caremark 2011 race. He is a graduate of Liberty University where he ran 10,000m in 27.08.24 to become the fastest in US collegiate history. He won back to back NCAA cross country titles in 2009 and 2010. He recently moved to Hanover NH and has a personal record at 5000m of 13.09.67 set in Los Angeles in 2012.


Andy Bumbalough is a graduate of Georgetown University and lives and trains in Portland OR. Andy is the athlete with the best current form he ran a  5000m personal record of 13.12.01 at the Heusden Zelder meet in Belgium in July. On September 8th he ran 3000m in 7.40.04 in Rieti Italy. Andy was the second place finisher in last year’s CVS Caremark Downtown 5K.


Aaron Braun is a graduate of Adams State College where he won six NCAA Division 11 Championships in track and cross country. He has a fine record in the CVS Caremark Downtown 5K finishing 4th in 2010, 3rd in 2011, and 4th in 2012. He has personal records of 13.20.25 for 5000m and 27.41.54 for 10,000m.



The defending Champion Molly Huddle returns for this year’s race. Molly lives and trains in Providence RI and became the US record holder for 5000m when she ran 14.44.76 in Brussels Belgium in August 2010. She competed for the USA at the Olympic Games in London last year where she was a finalist. In August she finished in 6th place at the World Championships in Moscow Russia it was the highest American female finish ever in that event. She is a graduate of Notre Dame University where she was a record breaking 9 time All American.


Emily Infeld is a very much inform athlete whose last race was a 8.41.43 in Rieti Italy on September 8th. Emily has personal record of 15.28.60 set in Eugene OR in 2012. She has blended road and track well this year and had a fine win in the Wharf to Wharf road race in California this summer beating an international field .A graduate of Georgetown University she lives and trains in Portland OR with the Oregon Track Club Elite.


Neely Spence Gracey was an 8 time NCAA Division !! Champion while attending Shippenburg University. She runs for the Hanson’s – Brooks team out of Rochester Hills Michigan and has a best 5000m time of 15.27.72.  Her father and former coach Steve Spence won a bronze medal at the 1991 World marathon Championship. Neely was second place finisher in the 2012 CVS Caremark Downtown 5K Championship.


Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton is a 12- time NCAA All American and recent graduate of Wichita state University. A native of Kenya this  is one of her first races as a professional athlete. She set a personal records in March of this year running 15.18.86 at the Stanford invitational  and  32.07.71 for 10,000m at the Payton Jordan Invitational. She is a fine addition to this year’s race.


Meghan Payton is just coming off the biggest win of her career. She won the US National 20K Championship in New Haven Ct on Labor Day. A resident of Richfield Minnesota she is currently training for the Twin Cities marathon on October 6th. She is a graduate of Iowa University, runs for team Minnesota and has a 5000m personal record of 15.41


Kellyn Johnson is base in Flagstaff AZ  and runs for the Addidas McMillan Elite. She is a graduate of Wichita State University and performed well in last year’s Olympic Trials. She has personal records of 15.31.66 for 5000m set in Portland 2012 and 322.30.40 also set in Portland last year
