(Colorado Springs, CO) – Three US Army WCAP athletes, Robert Cheseret, Augustus Maiyo and Kyle Heath, along with All-Army team member Edwin Sang, will all compete in the 55th World Military Cross Country Championships to be held in Apatin, Serbia, on Saturday.
The WCAP trio will be competing in the 4.8k short-course, while Sang will compete in the 12k long-course.
Hosted by the International Military Sports Council (CISM), which 132 countries have member delegations to, the championships often feature some of the top long distance runners in the world as countries like Kenya and Ethiopia support their stars through their militaries.
The last time the CISM cross country championships were held, the US finished 7th in team scoring for the men’s short course with an individual high of 20th, while in the long course, which Kenya dominated with a perfect score, the US men finished 11th. The US men have never earned a top-three podium spot in the history of the event.
