This. I'm working everyday around people WITH covid-19 in a dialysis setting where I'm inches from them. You others want to make a case that because I have a job I should be happy and not included in the pay? Simply because I have a job?
Working in medicine you should assume everyone you treat is contagious with something even when COVID is not around and always exercise standard precautions. Your behavior last year should be the exact same as it is today. It is an unfortunate part of the job. At least you are still able to perform your job and earn a living as a lot of Americans are not as fortunate. You are no more of a hero than anybody else doing their job.
Where was I asking for hero status? I'm asking to be treated the exact same way as someone who wasn't deemed "essential" during a pandemic and was laid off or furloughed. I shouldn't be punished (not receiving $2k/month) because I have to work.
As an aside, you're incorrect about standard precautions. Standard precautions last year were not the same as the precautions we have to take due to a pandemic. Come work with me and my colleagues and your attitude will change.
