Hello,
I’ve been considering my potential for ultra running. I work asa forestry technician on a marking crew- usually hiking about 6-9 miles a day on rough ground (no trail, just stick crushing and rock climbing) in the Sierra (living at about 5,000 ft)
Since college my primary event has been the 5,000M but since graduating and taking on such a strenuous career I feel like my body is changing in a way that won’t be ideal for a fast 1500-5000M race. I had a stress fracture and tendon damage in 2017 attempting to ramp up intensity on the track/treadmill while working.
Since recovered I’ve returned to run a road race about 2 min slower than my PR after a rough rehab (probably won’t be wearing spikes anymore unless racing).
My question is, where to go from here? Take on more trail races? My ultra distance is lacking as my longest race has been a half marathon (sub 1:10) and longest run 20 miles..
Any ultra guys out there in a similar career?
