You seem to be the perfect person to ask questions to!
Do you and your wife have access to the Columbia undergrad rec facilities, or just the ones in Washington heights? (I'm guessing everything costs money, and they may not be the best option; I just want to know if the undergrad ones are an option, and she forgot to ask during the interview.)
I'd almost certainly be living on the UWS, simply because my wife's commute would be intolerably long if she had to come in to the hospital from home-call and we were living that far uptown (i.e. near VC Park) for the Cornell rotations, and the commute is faster from there than most other places for both the Columbia and Cornell rotations. The ideal commute location is Columbus circle; am I correct in guessing that getting just a few blocks north of there will allow for a much quieter location?
About what % of time are the flatter fields in Central Park (ones with at least 80 m of straight flat grass, which normally seem to have a baseball diamond somewhere in them) both empty enough to run on and not closed? (Maybe it was bad luck, but those red flags were out every time it wasn't flooded with people last week). On weekends I can just assume I'd be heading north to VC Park; I can be OK with the crowds in Central Park, since I can just avoid them. Weekdays, I have a lot of flexibility on exactly when I work, but I do still have to work, so I'd like to be able to use the park I'd be living next to.
