Hi guys,
I have beta thalassemia, which is a genetic disorder that leads to low hemoglobin. So it is similar to anemia, but it can't be fixed by taking iron supplements (All my other biomarkers are OK). Taking iron supplement, which works well for anemia, could actually cause complication due to iron overload because people with thalassemia are not able to use iron properly to synthesize hemoglobin.
So, any ideas what I can do to compensate for my low level of hemoglobin? I have heard beet root juice might help, but not sure.
Btw, I am training for a marathon (not my first, my PR is 3:01, I am shooting for 2:55). I am doing around 60 MPW and that is making me super tired and I can't even focus properly at work because I feel sleepy all the time :-(
Thanks!
O.
