A local average Div I team has a 2.5 miles test in 14:30 as a cutoff. Do the math. Most of the guys crush that time.

I watch a lot of English Premier League Soccer and was wondering....These guys are obviously in great overall shape and run a lot in training and games. Could the average elite player easily knock out a sub-20 5k? Faster?
Yeah they probably could. It's all weight dependent. Soccer players are really light.. In the 110 to 179 range for the most part. Would probably be really easy for them. I would say most of them could easily run under 18:44 on their first try.
A 110 male soccer player? Not at the elite level. Most are going to be at least 145 up to 200. There will be a few shorter guys at 5'6" but even they will be close to the 145 mark. On the other end you have a number of centrebacks that are 6'4 - 6'5" and will be around the 200lb mark.
Goalkeepers are a whole different breed and generally carry a little more weight. They might not make the 20 minute barrier but the rest of the field players would.
England international and Man Utd player Jesse Lingard posted the 5K and 10K times he recorded this week while doing his daily outdoor exercise.

I play football semi professionally currently. In a few months time I will potentially be signing for a pro team. I’ve had problems with injury from September -November. In December I started running 5k’s again. My best time from when I started in December was 23:40 and that’s coming back from injury. It is now January 23rd and I have managed to get my time down to 20:25. In about another 2 weeks I will guaranteed get a sub 20 5km. Btw I am 5ft11 and weight 71kg. Hope this helps :)
Absolutely ridiculous, no way could any soccer player come close to usain bolts 100m times and mo farah’s 10000m times. Maybe some could run 100m in under 10.2 seconds but pretty much no one would run under 10 seconds. And they would get no where near. No where near 9.58 for 100m.
i will post this in every thread about soccer players where people insist that pro soccer players are "15 min 5k guys without specific training"

bro if you're gonna fake a 5k time, at least break 16, come on!
Didn't Andrew Wheating break 15 in his first track season after playing soccer? Obviously he's an extreme example, but it's not out of the question that the best soccer players in the world could break 16 if they did some track specific training.
I would say in the 17:30 - 19:00 min range for 90 % of pro footballers
Theses guys are raw athletes. Right now I bet only the top percentage of guys who are just naturally good distance runners would even get close, BUT if you give them a month of two of specific training I a substantial percentage would go sub 15.
Holy F****ing Sh**. Employee 1.1 just broke 15:00 for 5000 for the 1st time at age 36.
