De grasse ran the fastest double the ncaa has ever seen, showing Olympic gold medalist potential. But ches won 5 ncaa titles dominating all year, displaying he's the best runner from mile-10000 and xc.
The bowerman has typically favored quality over quantity so Edward's 5 sit in kick wins aren't as impressive as 2 dominate world class championship performances. Also Ideally the award would go to future Olympic champs to add validity. Favoring de grasse again.
But an argument against de grasse is you can't give the bowerman off wind aided times. Wind aided isn't in the record books, why should it be in the bowerman? Technically his PB is still 9.96?, not superior in itself to ches.
Popular opinion should be to de grasse because that was the most jaw dropping moment of the meet. But I struggle giving awards to wind aided moments.
