In the Olympics the 100 meter champion is called the worlds fastest man. But the 200 and 400 have less to do with acceleration, so someone with a fast sustained speed might do better in those. The 1500-10 k all include a kick, but rarely near max speed. The 800, it seems, is again about acceleration! Hardly anyone negative splits, but those who get up to an even speed quickly and maintain do best.
So, in planning my workout season, is maximal speed training and 800 meter training compatible?
