i know a hs track and xc program who got a new coach who suggested a few of their xc runners run in the j/o usa/tf this summer. he said it would help them for xc.
they didn't do a lot of speed work for it, he told them to keep it fun. maybe a little speed, but i know by end of summer on runner told me it was alot less miles then he usually ran base in summer. 2 of them went to nationals in july.
now xc is here and these kids are running times slower then they expected this season, and i was starting to think that their coaches idea about running jo meets ruined their xc condition.
he said his coach told him that he will be fine by the end of season.
what do you guys think?
is there still enough time for them to improve for the end/state meet? or are they going to be flat or burnout?
does base have to be alot of miles to be effective or just running everyweek?
is running the jo meets a bad advice for xc kids in hs?
