I am going to be training some 12-13 year old football players this winter. Their first intro to a fitness program other than a few push-ups here and there.
There will not be traditional weights involved, but some resistance such as heavy carries and such. It will be aimed at early muscle development and explosive power. I will have them doing sprints and pushing a weighted sled. Power skipping and other plyos such as box jumps.
Any specific recommendations on protocols that will help young athletes develop explosive power without any heavy lifting such as deadlifts and squats? Thanks in advance!
