The cavs could probably even use Shawn Kemp again. He did avg 18 and 9 when he was there and is only 41 years old.
I just want to say that seeing this video, then reading this last post made me feel really good about people. Good things CAN happen to good people.[/quote]
But unfortunately not very often. All too often bad things happen to good people. That's just the way the universe works.
Sorry but this guy has crazy written all over him. If he had a decent character and some common sense, he would at least have gotten a menial job to support himself. I don't believe that people end up homeless for any reason other than having serious character flaws. There's a good chance he hasn't been clean for as long as he says. A great voice isn't a credit to one's character. I would be more impressed if he got a job at McDonald's.

Gawd, f***ing Cleveland is the most depressing place on earth.
Who the f*** would live there?
I'd rather be a homeless bum begging on the side of an interstate exit ramp than live in Cleveland.
which one of you idiots said he was a good man? he has 9 kids. he left his wife with 4 of them to raise on her own. she went on to take in two more of his kids from another woman. SHE is a good person. HE is a criminal piece of trash who was born with a money-maker voice and chose to do nothing with it. The nice guy schtick is a con. IDIOTS.

I guess you've never witnessed someone pull themselves out of a bad situation before? He has mentioned the problems he's had...drugs and alcohol. Now he's 2+ years sober and trying to get his life back in order. Could be that he's not been sober as long as he says, but now he's got opportunities, and we'll see how things go with those. I don't think he's crazy. He's just a recovering addict that was really hit hard. It's tough to come back from something like that, and sometimes people slip, so he still might in the future, but people do get their lives back in order...see Josh Hamilton.

He was on the side of an interstate exit ramp in Columbus. Come on, Columbus isn't that nice either.
Maybe interstate exit ramp in San Diego or something would be good.

You are right. So not only is the guy a bum, he's a dumbass as well.

How do you know he is good? He could have beat his wife and raped his daughter on a regular basis. Just b/c he has a funny voice makes him good?
Exactly. I hate how people see a story like this and see a homeless man and think the guy must automatically be a good guy who just fell victim to the economy. It must have those evil Republicans who don't care about the poor that did this to him. From what I've gathered, he did this to himself and only has himself to blame. I love how few people are mentioning the fact that the guy ruined his life with alcohol and drugs. Even his own mother said on the national news that her son caused her family a lot of suffering with his addictions and abandonment. The guy has 9 kids, but it appears he pretty much had no role in their lives. I think his story is very cool, and he seems like he's probably headed in the right direction as he says he's been sober for the past two years.

If he was loitering and hanging around with a prostitute and stealing stuff from people's cars in a Lowes' parking lot as of this past July, chances are he has not been sober for 2 years.
He will probably be back on the street in less than a year. Lack of a job and lack of a house doesn't make someone "homeless" it is a result of daily choices. The guys living on the streets typically have a primary addiction (drugs and alcohol) or have a mental illness. Since the do gooders changed many of the laws regarding mental institutions - they were "free" to live on the streets and under bridges. I have an uncle who, if he doesn't take his meds would be on the streets in a few weeks. It is far better to get 3 hots and a cot in a mental institution or halfway house where meds are dispensed than living under a bridge self medicating with a 40oz Colt 45.
Flagpole, you can keep your criminal/addict. We don't want him in Cleveland. We have enough in our city already. And in positions of power for that matter.
I can admit it. But you can keep yours. I think you should make him your personal charity and do all you can to help him.
Eaxctly! He could be Al Qaeda for all we know and he may be about to mastermind the next bombing of a major US instituion. Or he could have murdered three women right before any of this stuff happened. He probably kicked a kitten on his way to the studio to be interviewed. Chances are, all that is bad in this country is somehow linked to his guy. Anyone who feels happy that this guy has gotten a break for himself is a bad person and is part of the reason that the USA is going to hell in a handbasket.

Geez brother. Alcohol and drug abuse and petty crimes and you're willing to never give the guy a chance again? My charitable dollars, especially those to my church go in part toward homeless shelters and soup kitchens, so he likely was helped by my personal charity. He is now under a microscope, and he should be on a short leash, but to not wish to give the guy a chance just isn't right brother. Whether you believe Jesus was the Son of God or just a man, the biggest thing he taught was Grace. He won't win son or father of the year awards, but man, it's appropriate to give the guy a chance.
The reason everybody wants this guy and his voice are:
1) Platinum level voice.
2) He knows how to tell a story and keep people interested.
3) He has a wealth of real life stories to share.
4) He comes across as humble, whether he is, or is not, doesn't matter.
The combination of the above are what will left this guy write his own ticket. The Cavaliers basketball people said, when asked if they were concerned of he would suffer from a relapse, something to the effect, "That is not a consideration."

The Cavs don't care about this guy. Their team sucks so bad they are already trying to do anything they can for some sympathy. When they kick him back to the streets, he can panhandle with the guy chanting "Way to go Brownies" after the Cavs games on Bolivar ave.

Cavs lost to L.A. 112-57
