Is Ichiro a Hall of Fame baseball player?

I like the guy, but he should not be in the HoF -- it is an American institution, commemorating an American sport. He is Japanese. Thus,,he should not be in our baseball HoF.

So well argued. Please write Cooperstown to inform that they mistakenly included Roberto Clemente, Tony Perez, Roberto Alomar, and Pedro Martinez into this distinctly American institution.

Ichiro absolutely deserves to be on the ballot and get in.

Watching him at Safeco for his first few years was amazing. He played the game, both offensively and defensively at a higher level. As the tide receded from the 90s power hitter era and roid rage, there was a lull in terms of what the sport would be defined as. Ichiro was part of a big transition to more well-rounded players gaining recognition next to easier stars like Pujols, etc.

Ichiro update: 32 away.

He obviously could not compete with the many steroidal powerhouses putting up 1.100 to 1.400 OPS's back in the late 1990s and early 2000s, since he has zero power and doesn't walk, but with 3,000 hits in the majors, despite his very late start, and his defense, baserunning, and steals, he'll be a lock for the Hall.

Can you imagine how many hits he would have if he came over at age 20?

Definitely HOF.

Not quite as good as Tony Gwynn, but not far off.

He could end up with several hundred more hits. Still has wheels, so who knows?

Cool that he did it on a scorched triple and not a bloop single.

Funny because when you win the World Series you're called the world champs? Seems like that covers more than just over here
