I am considering trying a half marathon this summer. I was wondering can I train for a half marathon along with 400m/800m/mile? I prefer the shorter events, but the half would be after track season would be over for me.
What type of mileage should I shoot for in order to do well in a half marathon?
How long should my long runs be? Should I base it on time, distance, or alternate?
Would adding longer runs affect leg speed? If so, what can I do to counteract this?
I am still very early in my training having only 2 months under my belt since quitting in 2001. Had the half been tomorrow, I would estimate my time to be 1:43. What can I expect in terms of improvement in 10 months with training dedicated more towards the 400m/800m?
Is it possible to tweak my training to benefit the half without hurting the shorter events?
What would you consider the most important workouts for a half marathon?
