Look, from what I heard, EPO did not hit the track scene in a major way until about 1994 or 1995, and continued until the EPO test was developed for the Sydney Olympics. EPO was undetectable during that period, and from what I heard, almost all the top athletes were on it, yet Wang was before this period of EPO use.
I would be VERY surprised if some lone coach (who was not well-liked by the Chinese Athletic Federation anyway) could get his hands on the drug if the European/African runners were not using it.
If Wang Junxia was on drugs, then damn it must have been some really good s*h*i*t. You'd tend to think that if she was on drugs, she'd be pushing up daisies like Flo-Jo right now.
With all the drugs that all the runners all over the world have been on since 1993, shouldn't someone at least approach 8:15 or at least go under 30??
14 years later, it's pretty obvious that Meseret Defar and Vivian Cheriyot (sp?) could go under 30, but again it's taken 14 years to reach the point where an African woman could even consider coming within 20 seconds of Wang's 10km record.
