How much can we learn from the Ethiopians? I recall reading the Gebs training focused around 2ks and 1ks for most of the year. The 2ks were run at 10k pace (for him 64 per 400m) and the 1ks at 3k pace (about 2:28-2:32). Hmmmm?? He does those all year long acording to Jos Hermens in an article I read published on the internet a couple years ago. I think the quote was in an Adidas blurb of some sort. He said that Geb ran 120 miles per week in the off-season (mostly on rolling hills at high elevation) and did just 80 miles per week before important races (but ot in the hills) and he did the intervals mentioned already. Actually, I read in another article somewhere that he did anywhere from 200m to 1000m in his faster workouts. That coincides with the Running Times article from The Harrier article from sometime in the early to mid 1980s that stated the Ethiopian team did two interval sessions in the off-season (usually 1ks, I think, it has been awhile) and up to three sessions prior to race season with one shorter day (200-500m, I think) and two other sessions that week that were not as fast. How much of the training that Geb, Bekele, and the others do is race specific---all year long? Isn't that something we might need to do to?
