The top end of NCAA XC is essentially becoming a slate of international meets for the top young Kenyans, with a larger local field allowed to race as well.
I pass no judgment on this reality and perhaps it is fine for the NCAA to evolve from US’ development system to the world’s, but it is worth pointing out how starkly the results at the top of these races has shifted.
I did admittedly get a kick out of Flotrack calling 18 yo Tayvon Kitchen the “4th fastest freshman” in the race, trailing only the 2nd fastest Cheruiyot, and the 1st and 2nd fastest Kimutais of the day.
