There's probably a very simple answer for this...but, what's up with the different male/female mathematical formulas for the Kosmin test. I understand that gender plays a role in fitness, but a) how did the Soviets figure out its numerical relationship and b) why can't a woman who can match a performance test of a man also match his race performance? It seems counterintuitive that if two people run the same workout in practice, that solely because of gender, the two might run more than 10 seconds off from one another in a real race.
For reference, here are the Kosmin conversion formulas...
Male (800m)
Time = 217.77778 - (Total Distance x 0.119556)
Female (800m)
Time = 1451.46 - (198.54 * Log (Total Distance))
Male (1500m)
Time = 500.52609 - (Total Distance x 0.162174)
Female (1500m)
Time = (500.52609 - (Total Distance x 0.162174)) + 10
Thanks,
Mike
