If they all ran sub 13 today, in January, then they’d all be cooked by June.
We merged two threads on the OAC into 1 and combined the titles.

They forgot how hard it is to run sub 13. They put down seed times they couldn’t run, Joe is a workout monster but poor racer possibly better suited for the marathon. They didn’t run bad, Yared, George, and Morgan ran PRs. Yared and George have options for Paris now. The second heat guys seemed more keyed in on just beating the standard. Nur didn’t even kick.
Seems Klecker was sick a week ago…maybe explains him. Mario and Jonas didn’t really have it. Beamish not bad though I thought he’d be faster it’s a nice PB and he hit the goal. Morgan solid. Nuguse a bit disappointing but not a disaster.
Klecker always looks tight. It’s why he doesn’t have an elite kick.
ITS OVER!! YEARS FROM NOW WE WILL LOOK BACK AT THIS MEET AS THE BEGINNING OF THE END
Beamish looks like he witnessed a murder in his post-race interview
Ben F just ran 1304 and basically booked his ticket to Paris for the Cdn Team. That seems like a win for OAC there.
Stop shouting
So sick of all the arrogance and sus from Ritz and his team. Glad Goose bombed. That sleazy team needs a reality check.
OAC goes home DEVASTATED!! 😂
I like OAC and I think to say they're toast is a bit overdramatic—they'll come back and if the goal was to go close to or under the standard, they did well enough. That said, this whole situation between the two heats and the hyping up of a WR attempt from Yared was completely unnecessary and makes everyone look bad. If you seriously can't handle having a runner who you slightly dislike or don't enjoy racing against in your heat, you're going to hate the World Champs and Olympics.
I'll still be cheering for both groups regardless, but count me as a fan who has lost just a teeny bit of respect for OAC if they unilaterally split the heats in two. It doesn't matter if Woody and Nur had bad days, if Woody clipped Klecker a few times in the last race, or if you don't like Woody's approach to racing, the whole entire point is to have the best race the best and I think everyone across the board paid the price for taking the route they did.
I forgot he doesn't even need the 5000 standard. This all bodes well for OAC. They've consistently peaked too early and underperformed at Worlds.
I think those hobbyjogger 5" shorts made it look even worse than it was.
Dude looked like he'd rocked up to a parkrun; keys in his pockets and all.
Joe breaks it down and it's pretty understandable. No rest, high mileage, recent sickness, and targeting Milrose. Thought they could still get the standard anyways and slightly overestimated but not terribly disappointed considering a few standards hit, a few near misses, and a few PRs.
Ben F runs for On, but not OAC. His training group is Very Nice Track Club.
Can someone share with me where Nuguse or an OAC member were hyping this up as a WR?
I think that was a better performance for Beamish than you are giving credit. He's never going to be the guy who pushes hard enough in the middle of the race to get a really fast time so to get under 13:05 is an amazing run for him.
I also thought 13:02 for Nuguse was good. I know Jakob and Katir have changed expectations for how 1500 guys can perform over 5000, but 13:02 would normally be considered a pretty stunning performance for one of the world's best milers. I guess it was a bit of a surprise to see him so comprehensively out-kicked by Mills, but Nuguse should walk away from that race feeling good about his time.
Klecker is the only disappointment and I wonder how much his poor performance in Budapest is still sitting with him. The other OAC guys were nothing to worry about. McDonald did fine, I never expected much from Garcia Romo, and Raess blows very hot and cold.
From Yared himself (but started w/Ollie):
Kincaid finished nowhere so it's not like we can go 'if he'd have been in the heat, it would have been a 12.50 heat and they had to split the heats somehow to give more people chances of getting standards...seemed logical to me!
They'd have been better getting Sam Atkin in if they could have chosen anyone - he's always down to sit on the front and do the graft if a good time is on the horizon
Why is it on this website that someone can either be the favourite for the Olympics or washed up? People can have disappointing races and bounce back…
Parker Valby post 5k interview... Worst of all time? Are Parker Valby interviews always cringe?
Holy F****ing Sh**. Employee 1.1 just broke 15:00 for 5000 for the 1st time at age 36.
