My $20- red and white Nike zoom shift spikes arrived in the mail just recently.
First some basic information that others may find helpful:
the shape and fit is very similar to the Nike Waffle racer. I wear an 11 in both (the waffle racer and the shift), compared to a 10.5 in the Streak XC. The weight is roughly true to label claim -- 7.5oz in an 11 compared to 6 3/8 for the streak XC (10.5), or 8 5/8 for the waffle racer (11).
Now a couple of questions --
First question: the spikes that come with these shoes seem really long -- I measured them and they're about 8mm. About as long as my cross spikes. Should I replace them with shorter spikes ? I'll be using them at the armory meets (New York) -- rubber indoor track, running the mile (thats the main goal race). Also running the 800 and 3k, but the mile is priority.
Second question: they come with 8 spike receptacles. Should I use all of them, or should I use the blanks ? Currently, I've put blanks in the rear-most lateral side which I figure shouldn't touch down anyway.
Third question: they contain two sets of spikes, one of the sets of spikes have longer threads and come with a set of "washers". What are these for ?
