What do you think about using the Nike Zoom Fly as your main race day shoe for a HS 5k kid when most courses aren't grass. Don't see the value in spending $250 on a shoe for a next% or something. But also think traditional XC flats don't help much except for being light on your feet. They don't last as long (maybe 75-100 for XC flats, vs 250-350 for Nike Zoom Fly or something similar), they don't give much traction, and they have a cheap upper that falls apart. IMO for fragile new runners paying more for a low-end "super-shoe" keeps injuries down and costs less in the long run since they last a couple season as opposed to the Nike Waffle.
A consideration is in my state most of our courses are on hard packed gravel or very short grass, including our state course (90% gravel) where I don't see wearing XC spikes as a benefit. Other states may be different
