what the hell does that mean? 85.13 ?
sounds like some kind of overanalysis to me.

I'm thrilled to hear about Henry's race in Carlsbad!
A little late to post these articles, but I didn't see them until just now:

By the way thank you for putting me into Carlsbad and run this race,I needed so bad.
I was icing my hamstrings allnight and finally my leg and feelings were listening to my head.I posted 17:48 way better than I thought.
Henry
You are an inspiration, Henry. Rest and enjoy your job well done.
Henry,
Watching you put things together is as motivating as what you did at your peak. You inspire many people that need inspiring. To know one can have hope to move on, even with setbacks and improve is wonderful. Thank you for your spirit. We all need this.
Many Thanks!

Henry, I am so happy about how it all turned out in Carlsbad. From what I've read, it sounds as though you were the star attraction, and you justified the faith that we had in you. I hope that you enjoyed yourself while you were out there.
At the age of 48, with my fastest running behind me, I thought that I could never again be inspired by another runner, but you have inspired me. When I went out to run on Saturday afternoon, I felt old and slow and heavy, but I told myself that I would just do what Henry would do, and I ended up running 150 minutes on hills, at "Grandy pace." The next day, on Sunday afternoon, after hearing about your race in Carlsbad, I went out for 120 minutes of running on the trails, feeling better than I'd felt in a long time. As I was running, I was thinking that, like you, I still have the ability to change the parts of my life that I am dissatisfied with, to recapture youthful enthusiasm, and to experience simple joys.
Thank you, Henry.
Thanks Avo for making this happen!
So impressive! I just started running again after a long hiatus, and I have a feeling that I'd probably have been behind or right near Mr. Rono in this race. Given that I'm 22 and ~150 pounds, that is very humbling. What a comptetitor
As Mike Long said to me the other day,"You have friends Henry behind you."
Yes,the city was behind me many phone calls I did received while I'm here.
Press and many friends wanted to meet me unfortunatly I didn't do all of them.
The next race I'm planning now is Crest city;however, I need to sign autographers 100 each cost $10 to pay up last month bills.
As you understand, I have been coaching without charging my clients.
I'm behind one month payment bills.
So I have a photo or you can send me any photo of me to get an autograph. I will send it back to you immediatly with address with stamp on it.
Unless I have to do sports coaching clinics someplace in the country very soon.

No, not over analyzing. If you're a masters runner, you are probably of the WAVA tables.
http://www.howardgrubb.co.uk/athletics/wmalookup06.htmlJust a simple little program that converts your time to an age graded time, and gives it a percentage of the current best times. Roughly...70% is regarded as a decent local age grouper, 80% national class, 90% world class.
For comparision, Nolan Shaheed's time of 16:31 as a 57 year old was 94.62 or equal to a 13:38 effort.

I didn't get to meet Nolan Shaheed,If I met him earlier my race could have been alot better;however,I was negotiating with my hamstring injury anyway. It all comeout good. I think ice massage took care of it.
I was stupid enough not to discover earlier to ice it up.I waiting until the night before the race.which is too late. Now I know the treatment of hamstrings, this is news to me.
From now onwards racing for me does rise-up my running psychology as it did here in Carlsbad. The press are behind my comeback.
Thanks again
Henry
Henry, congratulations on a great race!!! I think I made a very optimistic prediction a few weeks ago of 17:30, (and really thought 18-18:30 realistic.) You do have the GREAT MOTOR, though. When the last pounds come off, you will be scaring the hell out of the national class masters. Stay healthy, and maybe take it a little bit easier the next few days. That hill work is great ..... it gives you tremendous cardio work without alot of pounding. Keep it up, Henry. You are an inspiration!!! STEVE
Great race but sorry you need to start selling autographs to make ends meet. That doesn't sound like a good prospect. Hopefully you can find something better. Maybe those in ABQ area can help create something with him.

I thought a couple of articles said you were in school going for a PHD, no grants available?.
You could limit the number of autographs each month number and date them. Sign with your monthly PR progress and that would drive up the price making people want to collect the whole series. You could issue back months in Limited $100 sets.
Can a Fairer Faucet type calender be on the near horizon?
Henry,
Great race in Carlsbad!! I hope things continue to go well for you. I live in Albuquerque and wanted to know which road races in town you might be doing next. I am also trying to get back into shape and am about the same fitness level as you. I would like to race against you. It is a goal of mine to be able to keep up with your progression. Maybe we could push each other to fast times. Anyways, I hope things continue to go well for you. You are a very motivating person.
Henry:
I'm sorry to hear about the need to make money by signing autographs, but I understand.
In the near term, you might begin to think--as somebody has already advised--about some sort of calendar and/or wall poster that chronicles your comeback. Your story has the capacity to be one of the great inspirational comeback stories of ALL time, athletic or otherwise.
If you haven't already done so, find a friend with a digital camera and take one photo a day, or a week, posed in the same location, so that your comeback--which has indeed registered in part through your remarkable and sustained weight loss--is marked by a visual record. Keep a record of your weight (as you've been doing) on that date.
And assemble whatever photos of you've got of "pre-comeback" Rono--one year ago, for example. It's OK is you look startlingly heavier in those old photos. That's part of the story.
When you finally hit your lowest weight and begin making a run at WRs again, you can find a fan to work up a poster that strings together a series of photos that together mark your extraordinary transformation from 200+ to, say, 150.
All you need is the right final photo--you actually breaking the tape in an age 55-59 WR--as the poster's main photo, with all those other photos strung across the top, left to right.
And a catchy headline:
HENRY RONO: ALIVE AND STILL KICKING!
HENRY RONO: NEVER SAY "CAN'T"!
HENRY RONO: YOU'RE NOT GETTING OLDER, YOU'RE GETTING BETTER!
Something like that. And please forgive this bizarre fantasy. It would, however, make you a lot of money, if you offered this through your website at the appropriate moment down the line.
Henry: You've got to get a part-time job to cover the basic bills for living. (gas, electric, water, rent). You can't 'not pay them' or you'll be headed for disaster. Just get a part-time job that won't interfere with you schooling or running. Anybody reading this in Albq? Can you help?
Henry, also a big fan from back in the day. Like many others I have a lot of admiration for what you are doing and are trying to over come.
As far as money...you might want to try and sell your autographs, pictures etc. on e-bay. It's really easy and you would have a world wide audience. Also consider getting some Rono runs shirts, hats etc. made up and sell them on e-bay as well. Make sure to get a shirt made of a technical polyester type fabric and do short sleeve, long sleeve and singlets. As you attend more races I am sure the race directors would let you have a booth at their expos and you could sell your stuff there as well.
Best of luck.
Does anyone have the video of the 3000m world record in Oslo as I would really like to see it.
If anyone has a copy or knows where I could get a copy of it, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Henry,
I am currently in the condition you were in when you started getting back into shape. I have been lurking here reading your progress for a long time. I was a competitive runner although not at your level. Anyway the point is, you have inspired me to begin again to regain a reasonable level of fitness. I hope my knees can get thru the initial months. Thank you for your inspiration. Keep it going and congrats on Carlsbad.
