Florida has not posted data by 10:30 ET for the first time I can remember. Something is going on, and yesterday you had them dump 4,000 old cases...

Also, while I would not hold message board posters responsible, I would be very upset if a loved one got COVID and was on a ventilator in a state having a late spread once we knew better (Florida, Texas, California, Arizona, Georgia et al.). I would certainly blame the political leaders who failed them and the individuals who selfishly broke distancing rules or didn't wear masks. There is no reason many of these states had to dramatically spike in cases beyond leaders and individuals not wanting to enforce or obey the rules. Many of these deaths and hospitalizations were preventable. It also is making numerous things that didn't really have to be a flashpoint, one very big one ~ school, college football, and so on.

Good investigation by the Houston Chronicle on under counting deaths in Texas. In counties that do not have a coroner, death certificates are left to the justice of the peace. The JP is basically Judge Whopner. They are small claims court judges that hear everything from traffic tickets to evictions to disputes between neighbors over the dogs getting out and ripping up the flower bed. They do not have to even be lawyers. They are elected and can make a pretty good living doing weddings for an extra fee during breaks. So, you often have to be politically connected in a smaller county to get elected as JP.

Texas switched to using only death certificates and does not count presumptive COVID deaths. JPs do not have any medical expertise and the cost of referring a case out of county to a coroner is prohibitively expensive. So, the investigation found about 5,500 unexplained excess deaths.

Florida finally got the data up. 148 new deaths, 6,236 cases. Positive rate staying pretty steady. Just more plateauing, though at least the new "average" is 5-7,000 cases and that is not all explained by less testing. But it's certainly not a flattening of the curve by any means.

I feel sorry for your friend, but for you to blame anonymous posters for your friend's death is beyond ridiculous.

I'd wager the majority of the people that go to your church believe in Kemp's and Trump's COVID policies. Are you letting them know how much they are to blame? Must be a fun church service. Perhaps that's where he caught it.

Does FL report by date of onset for cases or just date reported? If they do post onset date, what was the date of the peak (if one has been reached)?

Our church has not held regular in-person services since March. The last few Sundays we have had drive-in worship where the service is broadcast over FM radio. Nobody gets out of the car except the pastor and a few others conducting the service. Unless the virus travels over FM, he didn't get it at church.

They don't seem to, for cases. They do onset for deaths. Things are catching up to the daily numbers reported there with a new average around 155 emerging for all of July. I think my divide by 75 to get a rough sense of daily deaths to come idea is accurate if testing remains consistent. That being said there is a long lag for deaths to come all the way in ~ a month. As it stands daily deaths reporting will be high at least another 6 weeks I'd say. At least.

Maybe he got it at one of the underground church services that seem to be going on. A couple in my neighborhood conducted church services on some weekday nights in May/June with a bunch of other couples. That is until 8 -9 of the 30ish people contacted COVID. At least no one died that I'm aware of.

I don't know what others in my church think about the coronavirus policies. As far as I know, we don't have any Trump supporters but we really don't discuss politics there.

I go for groceries every three weeks. I get takeout occasionally. And now that we have drive-in services, I go to church too.

I told you that I didn't know when I would be easing my self-imposed restrictions. I still don't.
