I think you guys are overestimating how many people will be going back to in-person work. At least anecdotally, none of my friends/their friends are being asked to go back this year. Seems like just a small % of people who need to be there will be ~ do not anticipate extremely crowded trains or offices. The bigger concern might be schools to me. I do not see a mass return to work, or people stopping wearing masks/distancing as they are very ingrained at this point. Yep I think rstjj captured all of my thoughts. I'm not really sure what the move is. Is 25 or 50% capacity for restaurants (not bars) safe? Will test/trace be good enough to allow some riskier things to operate? Hopefully it's a very mild fall to give the City and State more time to learn from others.

Bad day for fatalities in Texas. 324 new fatalities reported today. I believe that is a new high or very close to the high. Over 8,000 have died since Memorial Day weekend.

New infections were down to 6,200, but there is still concern about a very high positivity rate and lack of testing. The silver lining is that in some areas like Austin, demand for testing has dropped off so much that on demand testing is now more widely available and wait times for result are coming down. It would have been better to accomplish that through better planning and funding for testing, but at this point, anything that helps is welcome.

Everyone hopes the COVID truthers like Berenson are correct. There's just not much evidence they are. The Sunbelt has Herd immunity now? Is that why they're still testing with a positive rate over 10% and piling up deaths.

Look at AZ's daily cases and put a mark on June 30. What do you see happen after June 30? Cases gradually decline. What happened on June 30? Gov. Ducey finally stepped in a closed bars, gyms and implemented other social distancing measures. But Berenson says it is herd immunity. How does he know this? Seroprevalance testing? Or the same sort of "scientific" research that lead him to write a book about how legalizing pot would turn everyone into psychotic violent pot zombies?

Immunity does play a roll, but a very limited roll. Just look at Brazil. They have been in the barrel for almost two months now with no sign of the infection rate letting up. And Spain is seeing a very big outbreak. Where is their herd immunity?

There are some theories that herd immunity is much lower for COVID 19 because it is more likely to transmit via superspreaders. So, once the infection reaches say 20% of the population, the odds of having new superspreaders goes down. But the odds of having superspreaders goes down when you put in social distancing measures. So, the only evidence supporting lower HIT is the same thing that you would expect to see from social distancing measures.

Not sure about this. where are your figures from? worldometers gives 220 and 225 deaths past two days. max deaths 322 end of July. if you have 324 then it might be a worst day, but it would also seem to be a very strange spike.

Lockdowns obviously have been successful all over the world. Lockdowns have been studied extensively as I posted many, many scientific studies about it. Lockdowns are the base of the only strategy proven to work against this virus.

I debunked your garbage quite thoroughly. Anyone who wants to go back earlier in this thread can see all the studies I posted. Some of those studies are from the most highly respected journals in all of science, like Nature and the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Anyone can look at how the other nations handled the pandemic. Almost all the nations who did so successfully used lockdowns as an integral part of the strategy. It is a strategy that America could not sustain because Republicans were more worried about the economy than human lives.

So now we have the worst of both worlds. The economy is in the toilet and almost 170,000 Americans are dead.

This has hit me personally. One of my friends is in the hospital right now on a ventilator because of people like you.
