I heard the AD wants a 100 person roster for track team.

100 person rosters aren't that unusual for DIII or even the CCIW where I can think of at least 3 schools that have close to 100 or well above. But have you been to Decatur? I don't think it's happening there. They might as well just hire an admissions person and put a coaching polo on them.

Yes, very interesting indeed, no coaching experience after letting a great coach go and problems in paradise. I wish them luck and I hope it does not hurt their distance program.

Shame on Michigan. I am not here to slam Kevin Sullivan. I am here to say that Clayton should be ashamed to let go of Gibby for a volunteer coach. He may end up being the greatest coach in the world. That is not the point.

Calling Kevin Sullivan a "volunteer coach" is a misnomer and shows a lack of understanding about the sport at the collegiate level. It's cool that you're standing up for your boy, but get a clue.

I am sure it is one of the top factors, but things like facilities, coaches, location and reputation of the program are right up there. If I was choosing between a school in CA/FL/TX with a great facility and coach versus a small school in the Knoxville area, the money might be secondary.

Kevin Sullivan has never had a paid position as a collegiate coach, therefore he IS a volunteer. And don't give any crap about how much a volunteer can do. 90% of the job they can't do and they have no responsibility. Don't give a darn if Kevin was a great runner. You want to start a discussion of all the great runners/athletes who sucked at being a head coach.

Kevin's been around long enough to know how the job is done. At the upper levels of D1, who do you think will get into more living rooms with recruits: Alex or Kevin? Who will already have a pipeline internationally (particularly in Canada) that Michigan can immediately draw upon to sign difference makers at the NCAA level: Alex or Kevin?

You can choose to focus on the volunteer thing if you'd like, but that would be focusing on the branch while missing the forest. Kevin will do a great job and it was a smart hire. Best of luck to Alex, but if I were the HC, this would be a no brainer.

Probably not among SJ's top recruiting grounds. He has the ability to get the right kinds of kids who are interested in an NAIA program, but it's a fairly small niche, same a with Bryan and Milligan in that area.
