Oh, and, I stand firm that nobody really cares about women’s soccer beyond high school. They barely generate enough revenue to sustain a national league.

Ellis didn't rob Morgan by giving Rapinoe Morgan's PK. Teams usually have a designated PK taker; the PKs are not typically taken by the player who was fouled. On the US team, Rapinoe is the preferred player for PKs.

Having played, coached, and refereed soccer for most of my life, you are correct about the designated PK player. However, any of the forwards are more than capable in that situation, particularly the star forward. There is no auto-pilot in the world cup. It is the coach's discretion, and, in this case, Ellis chose Rapinoe over Morgan. It was obviously the correct decision in hindsight, despite the fact that that particular PK shot was not a particularly overwhelming shot. If the goalie guessed right, it was an easy save.

It's hard for me to believe that Ellis would've ever considered Morgan given her alignment with Rapinoe and Rapinoe's self-aggrandizement as something "more than soccer," which she and US women's soccer are not, despite what they wish were otherwise. It was a decision that gave the Golden Boot to a loudmouth, narcissistic, really good soccer player, who happens to be gay and doesn't really perceive reality outside of her pseudo-Machiavellian BS.

As for the Hinkle situation, we have an allegation made by some on the right. We don't at this point know whether it is true. Hinkle may have been tested as a member of the team and found less useful than other players. It isn't unusual for players to get a few games with the National team and then get no more.

Despite many sources referring to Hinkle as the best left back in the US, I agree with you here. It's possible that the US deemed her unnecessary as they believed they had the "two best teams in the world" in their lineup. It is also possible that Ellis didn't want any drama within the team, though this team showed themselves, in the end, as immature, privileged, ugly Americans who crave drama and attention.

And it could be that she can believe what she wants to believe, but if the team has a uniform for a game, the members of the team wear the uniform. So if the team wears rainbow accented shirts, you agree to wear the shirt or you aren't on the team. The same would be true if a team member had an issue with the sponsor of the team. You wear the shirt with the sponsor's name or you aren't on the team.
