Rono was the only man with EPO in 1978 of course, or he was using blood transfusions in rural Africa where there was an aids epidemic coming to the fore...
Rono did that for one season, El G did it for 10 years. There are a number of people here who have claimed that Rono was burnt out even before that season ended, hence why he lost to white boy Ovett. Can't recall El G losing over two miles in his best season to a guy who had moved up from 400/800 just a couple of years before.
I don't read your posts much now, but you're claiming (in response to Deano) that Coe had a crazy 1981 running fast times every week? Hmm, and then in 1982 he became ill - maybe he overdid it in 81? Most athletes in history until the EPO era never had more than 3 or 4 years of constant success without some injury or burn out. Guys like Morcelli and El G were suddenly like machines who could do it week after week, year after year. You told us (on the basis of your athletics experience) that Tim had to miss one of the biggest (and most lucrative) nights of the year to plant potatoes in Rongoi in order to avoid burn out after having a couple of fast races which he won by over second each time.
El G was ran the fastest 1500 of the year for 8 years in succession. That run came to an end in 2004, the year he won Olympic double, when he only had the second fastest time (a ponderous 3:27) pipped by Bernard A Sample Lagat.
The only other 1500m runner since El G to record the fastest 1500m in consecutive seasons is Asbel Innocent Kiprop, who has done it twice. In the last 36 years the only people to run the fastest time in two consecutive seasons are Aouita, Morcelli, El G, and Kiprop.
Oh, and Rono moved to America in 1976.
