Solinsky and Teg in the Olympic Trials 5k back in 2008. They were supposed to trade leads, Solinsky did all the work. Teg made the team and Solinsky was out kicked by Ian Dobson.

Here's an interview with Craig Lutz after the race.

He was somewhat content with his 4th-place finish but wasn't totally happy because he finished 3rd two years ago.

Jenkins is a fool to think ches would just give him a share of the title. Hope he actually tries to win the 5000 with talent and training, not some agreement.

I just learned from Larry Rawson tonight the origins of the steeplechase. Did you know that it was originally a horserace event, where riders literally raced from village steeple to village steeple?

Although there hasn't been a steeplechase race that he's announced yet in 5 years where he hasn't talked about the origins of the steeplechase, as well as his time running it, I hope he mentions it again tomorrow, in the women's race, and then in the mens and women's finals, as well, because I don't remember too well, and if my wife would ask me during tomorrow's heats "what is the origin of the steeplechase" I'd be totally stumped.

The 10K is a joke of an event in the NCAA and should be removed since its not of quality. Take the qualifiers in the steeple, and 5K and Lutz would never see the podium. In almost all other distance events the top 8 competitors have the US Trials standards but NO ONE has it in the 10K...and we have to sit for half an hour to watch freshman times get dropped!

Yea no kidding. Bromell especially looks insane. Not only did he jog the curve, he also eased up well before the end. Easily 19.9-19.95 if he ran through...and that's cruising the first 100

I just watched the replays of the 200s.

Bromell is crossing the start line of the 100 at around 10.3-10.4. He was either 2nd or 3rd to last heading into the home stretch and he just turned it on. So impressive.

A joke? the top three finishers in XC were in this race as well as 8 of the top 20. It is much easier at the collegiate level for runners to take shots at fast 5k's or steeples late in the season at say Payton Jordan, where as very few coaches are willing to let athletes go after a second fast 10k that close to conference, regional, and national competitions.

And day 2 is underway.

Weather is very similar to yesterday. Still a wind into the runners' faces when they run down the backstretch (from 100 to 200).

For TV reasons, they have changed the schedule. Women's 800 and 10k have been pushed back 20 minutes.

Now that I've watched about the first 10 minutes of the broadcast I can say that it's official, the new separate gender days schedule was a bad idea - assuming there's a big enough chunk of people in the same boat as me that is - . The boat I'm in being the one for people who juuuust don't care about watching the women's events (OK, maybe just the women's QUALIFYING events but hey, that's still a whole day's worth of events that myself and maybe some other people aren't tuning in to).

Then again, it's actually kind of great for fans like me because now I can selectively watch the men's races with ease and in a much more digestible format. I guess I was saying above that the new scheduling was a bad idea for the NCAA, ESPN etc. in terms of viewership.

Anyone else not really interested in today's coverage?

Even the 10k isn't going to be particularly interesting, its basically just Bates and Scott; if Sisson and Avery were running as well that would be another story, also if Disanza were around, fit, and entered I'd be down to watch it.

This announcer is flat out awful. Just making shit up as he goes.

Some of the steeplechasers are pretty hot so there is that.

Hope the Oregon women weren't looking for a lot of points in the 1500. Advanced 1 of 4 into the final (barely).
