Lessee. According to the race results, Kip would have crossed the start line 5 seconds ahead of you so I would buy into you having seen him at the start, and if you both pushed through the crowd early you both would be obvious to each other.
However, you finished almost 5 minutes ahead of him, a pretty sizeable difference. It would seem to me that having to push your way through 2800 people and running at a faster pace, it wouldn't be long before you lose track of him. I'm guessing that if this is indeed John Piggott, you could verify that he started and finished the race but I can't see how you could verify the bulk of the inbetween.
