I think Amos PR'd by OVER 2 seconds.

My feed's a bit fuzzy, didn't see the split. I figured Rudisha might be struggling a bit due to how close Amos was. guess not.
Nick ran a smart race considering the pace. Out in 24... His open 400 he ran proves he is one of the slowest in the field, but he had strength given his 1500 time. He probably assumed the field would crater and they didnt quite come back to him as most would think. I think maybe he could have been slightly more aggressive from 500-600, settled in on the curve and then made a move on the home stretch instead of being in dead last off the curve for home.
Poor Symmonds.
2007 WC: bounced in the semi's
2008 OG: bounched in semi's
2009 WC: 6th
2011 WC: 5th
2012 OG: 5th
He did just pr and run 1:42.95 (!) so he'll be back, but you have to wonder how many good seasons he has left since he is turning 29 this December.
Even the Brit who was almost lapped ;) PR'ed.

Well I guess do did Kitum. He never broke 1:44 before.

I have no doubt that he's maximized his talent, though. Like I said earlier, he had the second slowest PB of the finalists.

I wouldn't say poor Symmonds. Who in US mid and distance events has a similar record? Yes, no medals, but still an extremely impressive career.
That was insane!
Symmonds ran a perfect race I thought. At about 500 meters I thought he was going to medal. Instead, nearly everyone held on when they normally wouldn't.
Fun race to watch. Wow.
i've never seen rudisha that happy after finishing a race. good for him
This is precisely the problem with most American thinking...you all look at the 800m as if it were a distance event. The top guys look at it as an extended 400m race. Symmonds will NEVER, EVER be a sub-1:42 guy. While he's been a great runner on the American scene, he is just another 1:43 (now slightly under 1:43) "chaser" on the world level.
Word to American college coaches...recruit 47-48 second guys to the 800m. Don't recruit miler/2-milers from high school.

Uh... you know only five people in history have run under 1:42, right? I think college coaches will be just fine if they recruit more like him.
Is there a link to watch a replay of the race?
I'm well aware of that, but the 800m is NOT a distance event. Recruit 1/4 milers!!!

Has there ever been a faster race than this?:
Rudisha - World record, fastest time ever
Amos - 8th fastest time ever (tied with Coe and Kipketer)
Kitum - 29th fastest time ever
Solomon - 58th fastest time ever
Symmonds - 71st fastest time ever (tie)
Aman - 120th fastest time ever (tie)
Kaki - 151st fastest time ever (tie)
Osagie - 329th fastest time ever (tie)
Well done, Rudisha, and congratulations.
Sincerely,
Wino Hobo
That was indeed the fastest race ever at every place. Fastest winner, 2nd place finisher, 3rd place,..., and 8th place. Ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous.

Or they could recruit fast 800m runners, dope.

Way to count the guy out...just ran a BOSS race and now you're saying he'll 'never, ever' break 1:4x.xx...cheers man

Considering the field went out on WR pace, any other race everyone would have come back to him. Can't blame him for being abit cinservative with that pace. Great race for the Americans. btw, calling BS amos being 18. 1:41 as an 18 year old? no way.
you are willing to accept a 19yo running 1:40 but not an 18 yo running 1:41?
Radish is like 22?

Before today you were probably saying Symmonds would NEVER, EVER be a sub 1:43 guy.
Shove it.
