Okay, I've been entertained for ten pages, I guess I'll share my embarrassing story. A bit like tRg's:
I live in Eugene, and one night a year or two ago I found myself at Max's, probably as a stop-off after spending a few hours at The Bier Stein. My group had the corner booth, and at the large booth next to ours, my buddy pointed out that Galen Rupp was sitting in the corner closest to my corner. I had never been a huge Rupp fan even when attending Oregon or living in Eugene, but this was the weekend after indoors the year he killed it, and I had become a fan that week. Also I am a giant nerd about stuff like this. Also also, although I don't get drunk, I was very, very, very buzzed. So I half-stood, turned, and leaned over the divider and tapped Galen on the shoulder. When he looked up, I told him I was a big fan, blah blah blah...he was very polite and said thank you, thanks for supporting him/the team, etc. etc. The embarrassing part is that as I gushed about how great he was at indoors, I told him that he was now a man. I'm pretty sure I said, "You were a boy, but now you're a man." I'm pretty sure I said it more than once.
(The disastrous part is that I forgot to see what he was drinking. I'm sure LetsRun would have loved talking about what it meant that he was drinking a beer / a glass of water / a bay breeze.)
