Agreed. Its not like Risely just won the Aus 1500m champs or anything too over Kamel... But back to the topic I would say that anything 1500m and down - well I guess mile too for you imperical minded - Gregson would have the definate edge based on his finishing speed. Not to say Fernandez kick isnt improving but Gregson is still significantly better in that respect and I couldnt see German dropping him in a race that short.

I'd agree with the posters that say Gregson has the edge over 1500m due to basic speed but Fernandez has the distance edge. I think Fernandez will beat him comfortably at World Cross.
However, Gregson breaking Mortam's junior record says a lot. Maybe Fernandez has run faster but Mottram has run faster than any American over 5km so Gregson has a long way to go. Can Fernandez convert to senior ranks and not become another slagged off athlete on letsrun like Mr Webb has become.

Any idea how the race played out... Im guessing Gregson had a big last lap?
Gregson seemed to run pretty conservatively, looking around a bit with 800m to go to make sure he had Everest in sight (Everest recently took the JR off Gregson) then he just exploded with a 55s lap to close.

I think this debate may finally get settled over the May-August period. both German and Ryan appear to be getting some consistency after injuries and should have some good outings on the track to compare. Then we will know.
Gregson is not an 8km XC runner.
Not true, for the Kenyans and ethiopians only have running and nothing else. In Australia cross country and athletics is nothing next to rugby, cricket, AFL etc so if Australia only concentrated on the one sport maybe it'd dominate that sport to?
