To be clear, my point is not that Alex should be discouraged from pursuing his dreams/fantasties/windmill-tilting ambitions.
He just should refrain from duping people who don't know any better (general public) into believing that he is a unique character or talent in running.
Alex should strive to give people an honest look at the fact that he's a very ordinary runner at the moment. If he does that, he's entitled to as much support as he can garner for himself.
I think his website is pretty clear on the fact that he's an ordinary bloke trying to do the extraordinary.

It's all very well having a dream, but this guy will never get anywhere near 2.15 even in 5 years, never mind less than 2 years.
It would take him about 10 years of training to peak in the Marathon, and even then he will struggle to break 2.30
There is nothing wrong with pointing out that he is either naieve or his angle for the documentary is sensationalist.

He might have wild ambitions but I don’t get your point on how he is duping the public. He says that he is an ordinary runner trying to improve and that is what makes it exciting to follow. What many elite marathon runners fail to realise is that however unfortunate it is no one (the general public) really cares or knows who they are.
You miss the point in that he has self funded his back story and wants to make a documentary on Marathon running. He makes it quite clear that he is a very ordinary guy and that there is nothing special about him but that he is willing to put in a hell of a lot of hard work to see how far he can get. From looking at his sponsorship page he is targeting corporations, not little old grannies. Looking at what he has done in the past he has raised nearly £30,000 for charity and aims to raise £40,000 more! That is a hell of achievement in it’s self. I know of many runners who would never and have never even given a charity a thought.
People tend to result to personal insults when a) they are wrong. b) they are a twat. See previous posts by 'Seb Coe' and 'Trollism' amongst others. Incidentally I am a bit of a gambling man. Trollism if you are so certain Alex has an equal shot as I do at qualifying would you fancy a wager on it. Lets just say i'll bet my life on the fact i'll run quicker at London. Please don't belittle people who work hard at this sport and have done for years and years. Especially when your whole argument centres around us trying to belittle this Alex. We are just realists.

In order to run 2.15 I would say that he needs to be capable of running at the very least 30.30 10k and 65.30/66 for a half, at the moment he is running something like 35/36 10k and 75/76 half marathon, so he has to improve his 10k by almost a minute per mile and his half marathon by 50 secs per mile...

I predict 2:47 at Paris - because he's set himself an unrealistic target. He'll probably be in about 2:37 shape - but battling to go through half way in 75 will probably f*** him up big time over the second half, and this is the problem he face.... by setting himself a race target which is arbitrary rather than based on his fitness indicators he will suffer.
Just think of the carnage which happens every year with people who go out on the 2:15/16/17 major games group - even though deep down they know they're probably in 2:19 shape and multiply it by 10.
2 years ago when I ran 2:30:31 at London alot of people said to me "aren't you upset you didn't go under 2:30?" - in all honesty I wasn't. My indicators in the build up pointed to 2:32, so that was the pace I went out at - and nailed the second half. Last year, when I was a bit fitter, I went sub.
I'd very much like to run 2:25 one year - it's a medium to long term ambition, but there's no point going off at that pace if I'm not in that shape.
