Spencer BURIED Mantecon that last 200. Mantecon is no slouch.. one of the best kicks I’ve seen from a HS boy in a 3200. Crazy wheels, definitely think he is in sub 8:25 shape in a better paced race.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Spencer wins this regardless, but he was fresh and Mantecon had a 1:49 800 in his legs from yesterday. Might have been a little closer if he was also fresh.
Of course it mattered. If Spencer had run the 1:49 on Friday evening, and Mantecon had rested, who wins today? Nobody can ever answer that question. If they were both fresh, probably Spencer wins, and of course he led most of it.

And keep in mind that Mantecon is only a junior. Great run by both!
Niwot boys will have 5 under 9 if Rocco Culpepper and the freshman Jude Ritzenhein run a fast 3200m.
I disagree with the above poster who said Rocco Culpepper underperforms at big meets.
He is a 8-time state champion on the track. He won both the 800m and the 1600m at state as a sophomore and as a junior. He has ran 4:03.8 in the 1mile as a JR and has run 4:05xx twice already as a SR.
I would argue that this kid has a knack for winning, and besides Jackson Spencer and Marcelo Mantecon, I do not know a single current HSer in this country who has won more.

I should have said national type meets...He seems to be great when running in Colorado
Freshman Maya Arendell from Bullis won the 100m and 200m and just came from behind to win the 4x400 for Bullis in an incredible anchor leg. She is a force!

She most definitely deserves an upgrade to first class on the flight back home to the East Coast.

AMAZING meet but poor girl has compression socks and tape all over her legs :(

No. Spencer wins that race no matter what. He is that much better at the moment.

You should have said cross country. Rocco bombs out and underperforms in big cross country meets both at state and national level. Totally not the case in track and field.
