Portland is farther north than Eugene and has a 20k venue that hosts mainstream acts. Am I to understand that the Moda Arena is always 3/4 empty?
Pro running doesn’t have a profitable business model. It’s an expense to larger entities, mainly Nike.

When you consider that the meet was held during the Summer with many on vacation and kids out of school, the low turnout is even more embarrassing.

Failure for Eugene. Venue is tiny. The seats are falling apart, The naugahyde is from the same cheap place and Nike shoes. Poor facility. No toilets. No fans. Price gouging for hotels. Meets management lives in SF Bat and So Cal. Oversall a sub standard operation.
Appx 5 years ago Track Town USA tried to muscle the Olympic W/M 10k from Mt Sac by annonuciing a meeting in Walnut. Mt Sac didn't know anything about it and said USC decides the location of events. Mt Sac only has Cross Country. That took the wind out of Phil's dream to co-host the L.A. Olys. Ever since then Phil has been hanging out at his ranch in Santa Barbara.

The primary reason for the sport’s viability is that a guy who ran track went on to become one of the richest men in the world, and as a result became the ultimate “Money Mark” for the sport.
If track actually needed to have a profitable business model, it wouldn’t exist at the professional level.
when the meets are managed by rich wealthy buddies of PK there's little profit incentive. SO they just take selfies with Allyson Felix and Quicny Watts and call that work.,
Why are the cheap seats so expensive? wouldn’t it be better to sell some at a lower price? Heck even give tix away to area school teams but fill the seats. the Jamaica GST meet was embarrassingly empty and that was later revealed as the reason a main investor pulled out.
The major pro leagues always hock the team to a public commission that owns the team and stadium for the local community stakeholders.
With stability and longevity certain, dozens of billionaires show up and add their special talents and enormous value to the immediate area.
This is how the Yankees, Packers, Cowboys, etc. have made a sports metropolis out of a team of knuckelheads.
