The USSR actually tried that with the Jewish Autonomous Oblast -- setting aside a random chunk of crappy land in the middle of nowhere as a Jewish area. It wasn't very popular. Soviet Jews preferred to risk being refuseniks trying to get out and go to Israel.

Uh...what? I can't make sense of this word vomit other than you apparently making up in your head that Ashkenazim (central/Eastern European Jews) think they're the only real Jews. Literally no one thinks that.

Israel has, and equally recognizes as Jews, all of those ethnicities, to the extent of airlifting almost all the Ethiopian Jews out of war-torn Ethiopia in the 80s and 90s and giving them Israeli citizenship.

No writer who calls Israel "apartheid" has anything to say worth reading on this subject, or probably any subject.

Here’s an “objective measure” for you… Jews have lived in that land for over 3,000 years despite various attempts to relocate them and exterminate them. The land was called Israel and Judea way, way before the word Palestine was even invented.

Jacobin, often the source of good commentary on other issues, is a total embarrassment on the Israel-Palestinian conflict, serving essentially as useful idiots for Hamas. What's reported here may or may not be the whole story; their reporting is so biased that it's hard to take them seriously, at least on anything Israel-related.

The name was Canaan in 2000 BCE. It was a political power in 1400 BCE. Israel was first used by an Egyptian to refer the some of the inhabitants there in 1200 BCE. Egypt governed the area from Gaza during that time. The Book of Genesis was written around 500-600 BCE. Abraham, the patriarch of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam (the Abrahamic religions), lived around 1800 BCE. Abraham's son, Jacob, was "given" the name Israel after wrestling with an angel.

So, Israel does not get to childishly call dibs.

I expressed my opinion above about Jacobin, but let me elaborate. Here are just a few of the complexities of the current conflict that their articles routinely avoid addressing:

* They refuse to acknowledge that Hamas uses innocent Gazans as human shields and for this reason bears a large share of the blame for their deaths. (Instead, they simply decry Israeli "genocide," as if only one side is at fault.)

* They regularly decry Israel's blockade without acknowledging that Egypt *also* blockades Gaza and that the blockade has always been contingent upon Hamas's refusal to renounce violence and recognize Israel's right to exist.

* They sidestep inconvenient historical facts about the occupation such that if the surrounding Arab nations hadn't repeatedly waged wars on Israel, the West Bank and Gaza would be in Arab hands now.

I write this as someone on the left who opposes the occupation and considers it the gravest long-term threat to Israel's security. I've also experienced firsthand the racism of the Israeli state and have no love for it. But presenting this conflict as a morality play of good and evil, as pretty much every Jacobin article does, is simplistic and reductive. In reality, this conflict is tremendously complex, with both sides bearing culpability.

Sadly, this complexity seems beyond the grasp of posters like yourself.
