Super easy for us to overlook the Orem's of the world because they lose to AF, Herriman, and others.
Utah looks capable of putting 7 or 8 teams in the top 10 at NXR SW.
Utah has had 7 teams in the top 10 at NXR in 2022, 2019, 2016, 2013. They've only pulled off 8 once(2015), the most stacked year in Utah history. Utah isn't nearly as deep as 2015, but if Colorado has an off year it could happen.
Colorado has only had 1 year with more teams in the top 10, 2017 where they had 5 and Utah had 4.
In the past 10 years there has only been 1 program not in CO or UT to make the top 10, Desert Vista who have done it 4 times(#8, #10, #4, #7).
Girls side is a different story. It's dominated by CO every year.
Herriman put all of their varsity 7 under 16 for 5k at Bob Firman
This is very impressive. For comparison, the 2019 Corner Canyon team that got 3rd at nationals with 15:53 average at Firman. #5 guy came in ar 16:12. This Herriman team had a 15:34 average with number 5 coming in at 15:41. That 14 second spread is bonkers.
Top-ranked Herriman out of Utah scored 59 points with five runners finishing in the top 20 to take home the boys elite team title at the Bob Firman Invitational at Eagle Island State Park in Boise, Idaho on Sept. 23.
Austin Westfall from Orem High in Utah ran 15:00.9 to place third in the boys elite 5-kilometer race at the Bob Firman Invitational at Eagle Island State Park in Boise, Idaho on Sept 23.
Jaylie Jenkins from Union High in Utah ran 18:09.7 to place fifth in the girls elite 5-kilometer race at the Bob Firman Invitational at Eagle Island State Park in Boise, Idaho on Sept. 23.
Brigham Young junior teammates Joey Nokes and Aidan Troutner led the Cougars to a second-place finish as a team with 101 points in the men's 8-kilometer race at the Virginia Invitational at the Panorama Farms course in Earlys...
Looks like Lone Peak held out their entire girls and boys varsity squads today at the region 3 championships. I've never seen that happen. I'm assuming it's different now that they have added divisonals between region and state?
AF boys pulled off 1-5 sweep. AF girls nearly swept(1,2,4,5,6).

AF boys team was missing Jaster. Hopefully he is healthy for national aspirations. Timpanogos showed how important the 6th man is.
Very impressive performance by Riverton. That's a legitimate team. Herriman had an average time 7 seconds faster. They'll be tough for anyone to beat with a tight pack that fast.

This is exactly why teams go to Bob Firman and Desert Twighlight. Orem got out of their comfort zone and had a great showing at a big meet. That's why dyestat ranked them. Niwot got the nod because of Desert Twighlight(although definitely a watered down version).
Orem and Mountain View seem to be similarly matched teams. I personally think Lone Peak and Riverton are better than Orem and MV. But Riverton lost to those other teams by 50+ at border wars.
This is why NXRSW is so cool. All this conjecture and comparison is tricky...especially with these very early season meets.
We won't know who's best until all these teams go head to head in the same race. Niwot is good, but my bet is 5 Utah teams take them down.
