Emma Coburn jogs it in

Honestly, it couldn't have happened to a more deserving person. Emma's attitude and her arrogance around others is sad, to say the least. I've "ran" into here more than once and have intimate knowledge. Once, while visiting Dr Weber I ran into her and held the door open, she didn't say thank you or smile and casually walked through. I was mildy shocked and obviously knew who she was. She then proceeded to walk behind the desk and get on the computer as the woman at the front desk asked her about her insurance. I stayed seated and watched as Emma was allowed to walk around behind the front desk while using the computer as if she worked there. Wow, what a breach of etiquette and HIPPA violation? This is not an exaggeration. Often, I see her running solo or with her group and while I would give a casual wave (like a thumbs up) she has never reciprocated, not once. Her teammates often wave and or smile but not Emma. Once she agreed to a speaking at a local running store and then cancelled. I can you that the few athletes her husband coaches that are not "elite" are not invited to the "team" outings and often feel left out. Did I tell you the time that Joe stood by while Cruz ran intervals on the track and spit constantly on the track while other runners were also doing workouts? Finally, somebody asked Cruz to spit off the track. Mind you this was during the early set of the pandemic . Not surprising what happened to her. Other than Emma, what has Team Boss done ?

I call bull, I run around lagerman reservoir and on occasions ran by Jenny and Emma,always both had smiles and waves , unless they are into repeats, they were all business,also chatted with Wetmore, who stood out there.

They had a meet and signing at a local running store, the time they sat. and talked and signed autographs were with smiles. I hung around a while , they treated everyone with a smile.

Boulder anecdotes aside…

Emma has been very friendly and a total professional at every meet I’ve ever seen her at. If she’s injured or not running, she’ll still show up and give time to the kids who want to see her, etc. That’s where your interactions with fans is part of the job. It’s not necessarily “the norm” either — lots of pros want nothing to do with fans in or out of competition.

I’ll never understand why people think anyone simply going about their day owes them anything. They aren’t politicians.

Emma is a selfish, self centered person. I am glad she didn't medaled. Maybe this dq will make her a little bit humble in the future.

On the other hand, I am so glad Courtney got the silver. She is a kind of person, that treats anyone with respect.

I know nothing of Emma Coburn and what she's like away from the track, but I think most people expect politeness from others. It's not really too much to ask.

Yes, she was over peaked just before the Olympics began. She was already on her way down during a semifinal race. During the Olympic trials, she was at her peak (too ready too soon) and from then on, it was downhill. But she did her best and hope she does not punish herself by blaming herself. She had a long and successful steeplechase career. Probably the most successful in American Steeplechase history, men and women.

After the pandemic and postponement of the olympics there are genuine mental health concerns on athletes.

If you put that together with seeing whom you thought inferior running much better than you, that leads to immediate breakdown.

It’s normal. But the fact that it happened to the most arrogant in the sport, makes it newsworthy.
