Love how all the misogynist come on here anonymously to bash successful female coaches.
None of these women have been GIVEN anything just because they are women. They are simply among the best in their profession.
Most women fill out HUNDREDS of applications just like everyone else. And if they are lucky enough to be interviewed it’s only to check the boxes to make it look like there is a diverse candidate pool despite outstanding qualifications.
Men don’t have to worry about people worrying about whether you can do your job because you have kids even if you’re married. Or if you’re too pretty, or too this or that!
Andrea M and Connie P are excellent coaches with plenty of success on their resume to back it up.
We all go on interviews where MOST of the time they are just going through the steps of the hiring process knowing they aren’t hiring you. Networking is gender less. Get in good with a respected Coach and you’ll land a good gig whether you are man or woman

No question there are some great female coaches, but there is a trending overcompensation to hire women of color right now. This is not occurring because they are the most qualified for the job, it is because they fit some narrative and political agenda and Title 9. Where does that put the coaches that are better, have more experience, but happen to be white men? Out of luck. Expect the online backlash against schools hiring female or black coaches just to fill a quota to go up as more and more qualified coaches are passed over for jobs so they can meet a quota instead of hiring to win.

What success has Connie P on her resume? He husband coaches the throws and did so at Southern Illinois where she spent most of her career. She was a good athlete but this does not mean a good coach. Her Olympic coaching appointment was just that, an appointment. It has nothing to do with coaching abilities and the Olympic coaches do no (zero) coaching. Don't kid yourself on that. I'm sure she is a great person but that does not mean a great coach. Others do that for her . She brought one of her husband's great throwers (and him) to Ole Miss and eventually had to kick her off the team (more than once) and for good. After the athletes that were in place at Ole Miss cycled out, her teams got 11th and 12th at their conference meet and scored zero points at the NCAA meet. The previous indoors they were 8th (thanks to distance guys) and 11th. This is what she can do as a head coach and with her own recruits (at least the ones not brought in by the XC coach and who seem to score most of the points). Not very good results. Not very good coach.

This GUY doesn’t know what he’s talking about. I know several women of color that aren’t getting looked at. Not to mention the sport should be reflective of the athletes. Half are women and 70% are minorities so chill with that overcompensating crap. If anything the initiative is trying to level the playing field.

I got hired to fill a quota. It’s real, it happens. Same with women. Myself and women included might not always get a fair chance and now we have to be considered. The unfair chance is mainly due to a head coach or an AD not waiting us. I’d say usually that’s not the case tho, I don’t think all white people are racist lol and I think our sport is one that welcomes all races for the most part. I think women are at a greater disadvantage. White, black or in between. Women with kids is seen as harder to deal with than men with kids for some reason. Lot of men don’t want to have women coaching men, lot of athletes feel the same. I’ve heard it. All I can say in the end is be the best candidate to apply, no matter what race or gender you are. I filled a quota but I promise you I was the most qualified. (I’ve had some All-Americans to show for it).

This sport shouldn't be based solely on knowledge and credentials. Let's discuss the over-saturation of entitled dweebs who hate seeing women hired.

how do you interweave social and cultural women's sympathies into a 10 x 200m workout?
The sad part is that places often aren't hiring the most qualified person. They're hiring to fill a quota. It's disappointing to me when some places are like "gotta hire a ***insert race/gender/creed***". How about you just hire the best person?

Why should the sport be reflective of the athletes?
Are doing and coaching the same skill? I’d argue against that.
Do we use the same logic in other businesses? We don’t. Because it’s insane.
Hire quality. The whole problem in sport is we have people doing the hiring who are clueless on what good and bad coaching are.

Don't bash white men You are the racist one for saying a white guy can't "socially or culturally connect with a black athlete". I guarantee you there are more white men acting as father figures for black kids via coaching than there are black men actually sticking around and being a father for their own children.
I am a black man and the 3 most important people in my life were white men - my HS football coach, my HS track coach, and my college track coach. I'd be in jail or dead if it weren't for these great men that cared about me regardless of my skin color. Instead I was an all-american, I have a master's degree, and I have a well paying job as well as a wife a 2 kids.
The only things that should matter when applying for a job are qualifications and character.
The real discrimination in this field is against men. This isn't made up. Just a few years ago a guy won a gender discrimination lawsuit against Iowa.
"Scott's attorneys uncovered a June 4, 2013, email in which track and field coach Layne Anderson tells assistants that he had rewritten the position's job description in a way to attract more female candidates. "It is once again largely driven by the mandate from the administration to hire a female ..." Anderson wrote in an email."

Question for you. Look at Coach's twitter page ... would you normally take two coaches on plane ride for one athlete in one event at USATF? Or maybe they are doing that for a reason ... since male coach and female athlete?

Linh Nguyen was doing a very good job of establishing a base of building the Toledo program back to a high level. I also know he was very well liked by those in the program. I expect he will do a great job at Emory.
Agreed. Good luck Linh Nguyen! Emory may be Div III, but it's better than a lot of Div I schools in many ways!
