For the original strain and Alpha variant the vaccines reduced infection and transmission rates a lot - even for Delta vaccination people had high-viral loads for fewer days (less transmission) and observation studies during Delta showed less in-home transmission in vaccination households.
Requiring people in healthcare, childcare, and teaching to get vaccinated is not a new idea - vaccine requirements already existed for those jobs. For other jobs the vast majority of "mandates" were vaccinate or test weekly... because co-workers didn't want to catch COVID. These were mandates by private orgs that figure it was the best for them and their business.
This has all been hashed out in depth over the years.

Guess I'm an outlier.

You do understand that when say 0.5% of COVID patients die or 2% get lasting autoimmune issues... it's still a big problem even though the vast majority (95%+) have no problems.
