When you are recruiting only female distance runners for XC at Northwestern U, getting athletes with 32-34 ACT scores is not difficult. The challenge is no track. They do run track meets throughout the season, they just don't run Big 10 Championships or NCAA Championships. They run USATF meets toward at the end of the season.

I will be interested in seeing who Northwestern hires. Great school, great facilities.

Word is all those are being dropped (significantly) in order to pay new director more.

The list is missing Nikki Newman: $62,733 which isn't insignificant because he and Mo have provided what little success the program has had in the past couple of years. Since he coaches the same events as the new Director, I've heard that he's gone.

These are the 2017 salaries and 2018's were higher due to fundraising efforts, which the Director is expected to do for a low six figure amount. I've also heard that they're being reduced, but hopefully not below 2017 levels.

Putting a competent and stable staff together is going to be difficult/impossible. Any wage below $100,000 cannot support a family in the Bay Area. Cal's athletic staff are compelled to live hours away if they want to own a house or exist in tiny overpriced apartments if they don't.

Aubrey Roberts from Northwestern ran in the NCAA Regional.

Linh Nguyen was doing a very good job of establishing a base of building the Toledo program back to a high level. I also know he was very well liked by those in the program. I expect he will do a great job at Emory.

My understanding is that individuals without a team were able to compete in NCAA championships up until a couple of years ago. I believe they eliminated that rule and they "grandfathered in" athletes who were already competing. New athletes are no longer able to compete in NCAA T&F Championships because of the rule change.

Is this true?

Doesn’t seem so bad if the only restriction is not being able to go to the conference meet? Especially if only 6 scholarships for women?

Why not a men’s program?

Northwestern has a team, they compete in track meets around the country so not sure they would be designated "not a team".

Slander is a lie that is spoken aloud, libel is a lie that is written. Soooooo either way pretty tough to say something is a lie when it's easily verifiable!! Besides if you expect this thread to be purely job posts and departure announcements you are in the wrong place. 95% of it is gossip and speculation.

Previously mentioned academic standards...which are not a MAJOR hinderance considering you’re recruiting upper middle class distance women already...but is still a limitation. Especially compared to SMU.

Damn they got a hell of a deal on Newman then. His group and Mo's damn hear score all the points for the team. All Americans, conference champions / scorers etc.

Hi Nick!

To compete in an NCAA Championship, your team has to meet the minimum standards for compliance. This means that your team had to have at least 14 athletes compete in a minimum of 4 meets. If you split your team but have at least 14 compete on one day (or weekend), it can still count towards compliance.

Talk about jobs take that ncaa championship eligibility crap somewheres else.
