Sexual assault should not be a partisan issue between Democrats & Republicans and it should not be something that there are two sides to on these boards. The only response on this should be to investigate the claims and move forward accordingly. Believe me, I think Kavanaugh is guilty and a scumbag but time will sort that out. I do not understand why Republicans want to jam through a lifetime appointment for a man that could be guilty of up to more than 3 cases of sexual assault. The Supreme Court should be comprised of the most morally outstanding & intellectual people we can find. The victim blaming language the Republicans are using is gross. We are talking about sexual assault here. And, sure, Democrats want to jump the gun on this but they had a nominee stolen from them and it's looking worse and worse for Kavanaugh by the minute. Why can't the Republicans just pick someone different? Why is it important to go out on a limb for this guy? Voters are noticing. Women are noticing.
We allow free discussion on the boards. You're going to read stuff that offends you.
Sexual assault isn't a partisan issue. But it's clear people react with different reactions depending on who is being charged.
The presumption of innocence is one reason the Republicans won't pick someone else and the possibility they think this is a political trick.
Plus the timing of this is one reason the Republicans are less likely to try and pick someone different. The timing hints at an attempt to delay the nomination past the November elections where the Senate could flip. Two of the allegations may not have even been known about until this week but the Ford one was known earlier this summer. Waiting until this 23rd hour makes them think this is about politics not justice .
If someone else were nominated now they wouldn't get confirmed before the election. That has to be being factored into their thinking.
Avenatti sitting on his allegation for 2 days looks more about politics than justice. He went on TV 2 days ago and said he had something and sat on it. Why? To get maximum political affect. So then both sides revert to being warring tribes instead of people after justice.
Put everyone under oath and see what they say.
You can't talk about this like Republicans haven't been political about justices in recent times. Does Merrick Garland ring a bell? Dr. Ford owes you & all the other men on these boards nothing. Don't talk about sexual assault like it's some game for her. She came forward on her own terms and fought with that decision on her own. She's held onto that trauma and had to relive it today. On top of that, the FBI is not investigating this. There were 22 witnesses for Anita Hill. Who is playing politics here? Where is Mark Judge? Dr. Ford is extremely credible and remembers the sexual assault from that night clearly. She remembers who did it. Enough with the games. It's embarrassing for anyone in this country to not believe this woman. When Republicans vote, young people and women will remember how they voted and how they reacted to Dr. Ford from the beginning, how they victim blamed her, how they did not call other witnesses.
Also, your guy Trump only wanted Kavanaugh because he would help protect him, if confirmed. That's as political as it gets. I don't feel bad if they lose this seat. McConnell knew he would be difficult to confirm from the start but Trump didn't care. And now all of this stuff came up. Sorry, not sorry.
