I suspect that there will not be a melee as predicted here. The police will probably have a 100 or 100s at that part of the course and few if any runners will be impeded. There might be some action or arrests off course.

Hindsight has shown it had no effect on anything (Russia in Afghanistan...we were there 30 years later). This protest has nothing to do with the marathon...just misguided policy that will ruin many peoples effort and cause bad feelings.
I think it is just that the black lives matter movement has been out of the news, so to quote Otter from Animal House:

Just updating this thread to let the Black Lives Matter protesters know that I plan to disrupt their protest by running right through it on my way to the finish. Anyone who gets in my way will be punched, kicked, kneed and choked until I am able to pass. I will start my watch the second my progress is impeded and stop it as soon as I am through the protest. I will remove those seconds from my chip time and have a new PR.

To prepare for and run a marathon takes that most precious of commodities - time. Lots and lots of free time. This is in addition to the extra gear, the entry fees, travel expenses etc. If you are in the bottom 1/3 of income earners in the US, this is a luxury completely beyond your reach.
So I understand why they want to target a marathon. It is a leisure event with almost exclusively white people attending. This will go down very well with their constituents. It does not go down well with those affected. If you actually inconvenience the economic elites, they will bridle at the thought of having their Sunday off trashed.
I think they might have been better served if they had spoke with the organizers, and maybe had a special booth at the expo and the finish set up. Supported the event, tried to get the sponsors and organizers to work with poorer communities in StP/Minn to sponsor at-risk-youth to run etc. But this is the long view, and might fail.

Fair point. Standing in the welfare line takes a lot of time. No time left in the day to train. This is especially true when you need to be out protesting. [That's not a racist comment. The white protesters are just as guilty of being lazy as their black counterparts. The majority of protesters actually seem to be white.] Now try again, but think before you post. The African runners have far less than these narcissistic protesters, and they worked hard to overcome it. The people who make excuses for this group are worse than the group its self. Why? Because you are smart enough to know better.
This effort only plays into the hands of the haters and racists. Really really dumb idea, but the just as stupid whiteys are playing right up to it.
When I saw the BLM group at the MN State Fair, I swear there were more white than black folk in it. For you runners, they had a huge paper mache head of a black dude on a pole a la Mardi Gras at the State Fair that they'll probably have at this event as well. When you see that in the street, get ready to run through some yards along Summit to bypass them.
I wish these protesters had real balls and disrupt an NBA game.
The people who are going to punch and kick their way through, are you assuming you are going to be the first runner to reach the protest line? Because statistically that seems unlikely. There may be many runners between you and them. Are you going to punch and kick your way through other runners who are also being impeded? Should I have to worry about fellow runners plowing into me because I am stuck on the course?

Well, I plan to be slightly under 2:30, so while I won't be first, there won't be crowds of people in front of me (hopefully). If there are, I have either fallen off pace so much that it won't matter or it is going to be one fast year at the TCM.
Either way, I won't touch another runner unless, as I stated earlier, they are intentionally impeding my progress. I'll politely ask you to move aside if you're in front of me and refuse to do anything but stand there like an imbecile.
Speaking for myself, I would lower a shoulder into them with no hesitation and no regrets.
Have they accounted for the rage and stampede of thousands of 4+hr hobby joggers being within spitting distance of their finisher medals?
They would lose.
