I haven't run an 800 in several years, but I seem to remember wanting to get to the line as quick as possible so it would end, and being focused enough on that not to add 5 meters.

Kudos to Alyssa for trying a new tactic, and it worked very well. She had a good kick, and usually, it takes awhile to learn how to kick.
