A preface:
I'm a marathoner. I've run 24 marathons. However, :
1) NYPD patrolmen are complaining about lack of sleep already. And, now they are expected to work another OT shift for this? Crazy!
2) This race goes through five boroughs. Some of which have entire neighborhoods with no power.
3) I'm sure everyone will understand if there is no marathon this year.

1) The NYRRC is paying for the police. If the patrolmen are tired they aren't required to work.
2) Just running thru the neighborhood, not stopping for dinner.

just curious which neighborhoods the race passes thru that still don't have power?
I live in Manhattan below 14th st. and I don't have power. But I want to watch this race like I do every single year.
The NYCM t-shirt this year is a big middle finger that's says "F*ck you hurricane victims, I'm going for a PR!"

Right on. Some people here are expressing legitimate concerns, but the majority of these threads and posts read like they're written by the same guy.
I have small children. If I was told to evacuate, I would have packed what I could, grabbed the family a left. It's tragic that someone lost their children, but that has nothing to do with the marathon, FEMA or those with the "big salaries". Lives were lost because people ignored common sense. They cared more about things than their own children and now they want to place blame elsewhere.

Only a minority on a RUNNING MESSAGE BOARD. Ask any non runner if they have ever heard of letsrun.com. No way. Taking this poll is like asking who you favor for President at the Republican Convention.
This only proves what most people think. Runners are selfish and will do whatever they can to justify their behavior.
What about the trees on the course? Do they get any opinion in this?

Smart move for NYRR to pledge support of relief measures being tied to number of runners in the race. 26 bucks or so per runner up to one million dollars.
