If you actually stopped kidding yourself for a moment you would know that deep down you don't really care how the team does if you have a stormer individually. Its an individual sport, and the only people who seem to get into a fluster about them are those who are not capable of making an impact as an individual.

I think that is a rather selfish attitude. I ran the 6th quickest time at the 12 stage and I would much prefer to see my team medal then run the quickest leg. I'll save personal conquests for non-team events.

I once (I know it is hard to believe) ran the second fastest short stage at the 12 stage and was only beaten by Andy Graffin (who was also on my team) by a couple of seconds. On that same day Belgrave won the 12 stage by a long stretch. I didn't even realise I had ran the second fastest lap until I saw the results in AW the following Wednesday, because I was out on the course cheering on the rest of the runners. I had no interest in my personal time and was only interested in the gap I had created to the next team.

I came on because I was told my name had been pulled out the hat on here. This place is pretty addictive on a quite day in the office!

I would love to be in the team if I'm well enough or good enough but I leave that to the Alan Mead (TM). What you are able to deduce from Sharpy, Wardy and me being on here is that we are the three biggest skivers at Belgrave, as opposed to the first three on the team list!

Yeah you can tell it is the team we care about at the relays, because despite everyone in our club despising Steve Sharp we all get behind the b*stard and give him a cheer.

Northern Runner If you are watching them belt out sessions then you'll be able to tell us who the flying machines are from Morpeth and Chester. Who is flying what have you seen them do in sessions and who do you think the teams will be??

That would give some interest to the board and be better than some of the chappies here chatting about each other's members.

If you made an individual impact and are indeed a top runner from the 80's, you would have been fastest or top 3 fastest laps would you not?

If not, and you don't have a fastest lap medal or even at the least a team medal then shut up.

wardy my little gremlin friend. This is what team events are all about, even tho wardy is in the "c" team he still feels a big part of it. top man wardy ill by u a pint sat nite!!!!!!!

In actual fact I do have a few medals, but things were different in my day, you could be a 28.30 10k man and struggle to get in the top 10 times, nowadays you can be a 30 minute guy and feature.

I looked at the 6 stage results from Aldershot a couple of weeks ago and couldn't believe that people running 18.20's were amongst the top 20 times, I believe Nigel Gates ran 17.30's when he was 39. There were also several of our so called 'most promising juniors' running outside 19.00.

To be honest if you are running outside 19.00 you might aswell enter fun runs and spend your evenings in the pub becasue you either are not training hard enough or have very little ability. People can say they were 'coming back after a break' or looking to 'peak in the spring' but if you don't have the basic conditioning to run a half decent time after a short break then you are doing something wrong and that likelyhood is that involves a lack of conditioning.

When I look at the majority of British 'try hards' at the front of todays races I see guys with obvious ability who are no doubt training hard but not training clever.

Conditioning and endurance are key and not enough people are logging the necessary miles to reach a good level. When you have that background you can take a break, come back relatively quickly and continue to build year on year. Forget the sessions and get out in the hills and woods. When I hear about aspiring 5k runners doing 60-70 miles per week I despair. How many of those on the world level are running such paltry mileage?

And you know exactly how they are all training ofcourse.

i would rather run a fast time than see a good team performance.
