People are different one from another. So coaches are different one from another. Let me suggest that athletes, especially young athletes, need small d discipline. A substantial proportion of to-days youngsters get into one sort of trouble or another.A coach spends countless unpaid hours aiming his charges in the direction of success. He/she clearly does not want their time wasted and I further suggest that it is only natural that he/she keeps a tight rein on the athletes and this is to the benefit of the athletes. EP's coach seemingly liases with parents very closely and the manner in which they appear to respond implies that they are very much involved and regard EP's development with due care and regard. They may take action which is at odds with the thinking of some but we can surely rest assured that they would not allow over-training if they saw it was having a debilitating effect on their daughter. They have the ultimate embargo, that of withdrawing the girl from the coach's methods. This they have not done.Whilst comparisons are difficult to draw how many other coaches over the years have been accused of over-training their charges? Probably hundreds, in some cases no doubt true but just what is over-training? It will be a different thing to every athlete.
I wonder what Brendan Foster would have to say about the whole Pidgeon affair after his comments about Collins today? Has he made any statement on the contracts in the past? Does anybody know?
Missed Foster's comments yesterday....i tend to turn the sound down once he comes on. What did he say?
looking at the way Pidgeon ran at BMC on Saturday there is only one reason why she isn't going to World Juniors, she'd get stuffed...
Ahhh, missed that. Interesting to hear his thoughts, not that i usually value them too highly. However, as far as the Collins points scoring initiative is concerned, i happen to agree with him.

Do have the ressults from this race?
I'm certain her form was never the issue - nobody on either side has implied that. If she did have a bad race, that is just a cheap shot that avoids the issues and nothing more.
I hear that UKA have selected Emily for the International Match at Birmingham this weekend, against China, USA and Russia.
Will she run ?
Pnly if she foes to the holding camp in Solihull.
On the BMC website. www.britishmilersclub.com I think she ran 4:23, however after watching a video of the race, she was in 2nd till about 350m left and just faded from their so not disastrous for her.
"Mark Mitchell (Forres Harriers) and James Brewer (Cheltenham Harriers) both put their qualification for the 800m semi finals down to the time they had spent at the preparation camp at Macau. The evening humidity at the stadium hardly made a dent in their efforts as both had trained in damper conditions at the Macau stadium – and both qualified for the semis albeit in different ways."
Just appeared on UKA's website- little bit of a jibe perhaps?
Pidgeon is in junior BMC team for 4 x 1500 at Celtic cup.
If Pidgeon runs at the international that'd take her all teh way back up to however long you need to have not run for another country (I think, it is an international even though it's not a championship), so that could give us an indication.
Poor result in the BMC final- but perhaps just a one off- good to see Jess Sparke still running so well- she's really come on over the last year and a half or so.
Could be a jibe, but more likely a comment on the poor weather that China has had recently.
So with the World Juniors starting, is that it? Is there no chance at all of her racing there? Is it final?
No chance in the slightest- steeplechase semi finals have already been run. Think Ruth senior qualified but not certain. Ran about 10:12 or so, it was around a 12 second PB.
Entries closed some time ago, so hopefully there was some sort of final effort to get both groups (UKA/Pidgeon+Farrow) to reach a compromise.
Certainly too late now. I suspect that, despite all of the posts on this thread, the real reasons behind the decisions have not been aired. Perhaps sometime, somebody, will put the real facts in to the public domain - rather than the arguments we have seen from those either anti-UKA or anti-Farrow and Pidgeon.
I would have preffered that Emily was in Beijing, running at her best. It is beyond my understanding why the people who care for Emily and support her would allow this situation to develop. If she was my daughter or if I coached her, then she would have run and we would have argued about the rights and wrongs for some time. Not letting Emily run in Beijing suggest that there are other agendas being followed.
Macau doesnt seem to have done Sian Edwards much harm ?
Running for the BMC is not the same as running for a country, even if it's against other countries!
Think he means the GB V USA V China V Russia meet, not the BMC team at Glasgow.
One of my friends is out there and i spoke to them last week. Macau is not a good place for runners. The track is good, but there is nowhere to run. All has to be done on road unfortuantely.
Sian was ok because her race was early on in the championship so she was easing down when she got out there, but for some of the others who have races at the end of the week it has been a nightmare to train there.
Didn't know shes ding the international too. Yes it would put a spanner in the works for the theory of her changing nationality.
